Charles Oliveira responds to Dustin Poirier’s UFC 257 post-fight praise: ‘Let’s do it’

Unlike some of his lightweight contender counterparts, Charles Oliveira stayed respectful following the conclusion of UFC 257.

Oliveira (30-8 MMA, 18-8 UFC), who currently rides an eight-fight winning streak, wasted no time congratulating Dustin Poirier (27-6 MMA, 20-6 UFC) for his main event victory over Conor McGregor on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.

First in Portuguese, and then in English, Oliveira sent out back-to-back tweets praising Poirier’s performance.

“Congrats man,” Poirier wrote. “Great victory.”

In a third tweet, Oliveira congratulated Poirier once again, but this time, expressed interest in a matchup against him in the near future.

I hope to see you soon, @DustinPoirier,” Oliveira wrote. “Once again congrats (on) last night’s performance. Hard work pays off, and you delivered. Let’s do it.”

The tweet was in response to comments made by Poirier at the UFC 257 post-fight news conference. While he shut down any prospect of an immediate matchup against Michael Chandler, Poirier indicated Oliveira could be next.

“I think he has more of a (chance at fighting me next),” Poirier said. “I’ve been watching that guy for 10 years in the UFC (in) two different weight classes. He’s fought the best of the best, over and over again – and he’s been knocked down and got up. Time and time again, he’s proven himself. He’s proven what mixed martial arts and perseverance and what believing in yourself is. I respect that.”

Oliveira, 31, currently rides an eight-fight winning streak including recent victories over Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee.

Poirier, meanwhile, has won back-to-back fights over McGregor and Dan Hooker following a successful title challenge against UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

UFC 257 took place Saturday at Etihad Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The main card streamed on ESPN+ pay-per-view after prelims on ESPN/ESPN+.
