UFC fighter Charlie Ontiveros is the latest to be suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission.
At the commission’s monthly conference call meeting held Tuesday, Ontiveros (11-7 MMA, 0-1 UFC) was handed a six-month suspension and fined $2,245.36 ($1,800 + $445.36 in legal fees) for a failed drug test stemming from an Oct. 31 loss to Kevin Holland.
Ontiveros, 29, failed a urinalysis test when his results showed the presence of DHCMT M3 metabolites. In addition to his suspension and fine, Ontiveros will have to continue a random drug-testing program and present results under 100 picograms in order to be reinstated on April 30.
Ontiveros took the fight against Holland on less than one week’s notice. Usually a welterweight, Ontiveros moved up to 185 pounds for the fight. He lost via first-round TKO when he suffered a neck injury. The loss was just Ontiveros’ second since 2016.
Ontiveros was not the only fighter to be handed a suspension for DHCMT M3 metabolites by the NAC on Tuesday. Bantamweight Taylor Moore also was flagged for the same metabolites. His positive urinalysis test stems from a Nov. 10 loss on DWCS to Titan FC bantamweight champion Danny Sabatello. Moore was fined $895.36 ($750.00 + $145.36 in legal fees) and suspended nine months.
The two fighters join a laundry list of UFC fighters who have failed drug tests for the DHCMT M3 metabolites. Among them is most notably former UFC light heavyweight Jon Jones, whose case with USADA and the NAC brought picograms into the mainstream MMA conversation in 2018.
