Bobby Green: Kidney failure, lung issue to blame for collapsing after UFC 258 weigh-ins

Bobby Green says two health issues led to his collapse backstage after the UFC 258 weigh-ins.

Scheduled to meet Jim Miller on the pay-per-view main card, Green (27-11-1 MMA, 12-7-1 UFC) made weight at 156 pounds after being the last fighter to step on the scale. However, when it came time for the faceoffs, neither Green nor Jim Miller was present.

“Bobby Green just collapsed back there,” UFC president Dana White told reporters shortly thereafter. “Doctors are looking at him. They’re trying to rehydrate him right now.”

The fight against Miller was subsequently canceled.

Late Friday night, Green took to Instagram and addressed the issue for the first time. A longtime UFC lightweight, Green revealed that lung and kidney issues were to blame for the collapse backstage.

“There are three hills I have to get over in fighting,” Green wrote. “1 giving blood I hate needles. 2 plans I hate heights. 3 the weight cut I was so close. … So to be clear I have air pockets in my lungs I guess and my kidneys failed I messed my back up in training I thought it was just pain from that. … Thanks for all the wonderful things you guys said. It’s crazy how (you) can get a lot of love but not the love (you) want if that makes any sense lol.”

Green’s withdrawal is the 10th of his UFC tenure, but his first since 2018.

The UFC designated Brian Kelleher vs. Ricky Simon to move up from the early prelims and fill in for Green vs. Miller on the main card.

UFC 258 takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+.
