Jones Taunts Adesanya For Superfight Delay

Israel Adesanya recently stated that a possible fight between he and former Light Heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, was no longer possible for summer 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. That’s because “The Last Stylebender” — who will face Jan Blachowicz for the 205-pound title at UFC 259 on Sat. night (March 6) — says a fight of that magnitude deserves to be in front of a sold out crowd.

And he’s not wrong, a mega-fight between two of the sports biggest stars would generate massive revenue for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and the added roar of thousands of rabid fight fans would only elevate the intensity inside the cage. Jones, meanwhile, thinks the delay is nothing more than another excuse from Adesanya.

As a result, “Bones” posted a video on social media taunting the Middleweight champion’s reasons behind his desire to book the fight at the end of 2021.

Of course, a lot can happen in the next nine months because while Adesanya will try to capture the 205-pound title to become the next champ-champ, he fully intends to drop back down to 185-pounds to defend his title next. Furthermore, Jones’ next fight will be in the Heavyweight division against either Stipe Miocic or Francis Ngannou for the division title.

With so many moving pieces, everything has to go right from here until December in order to prevent the potential superfight from losing any of its luster. Then again, as long as Jones and Adesanya keep taking jabs at one another and keep their disdain for each other fresh, it’s bound to happen either way.

Right?
