The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight division’s forgotten contender finally returns to action this Saturday (March 13, 2021) when Leon Edwards puts his eight-fight win streak on the line against late replacement Belal Muhammad inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. Earlier that evening, Misha Cirkunov attempts to finally get some momentum going at Ryan Spann’s expense, while Dan Ige defends his Top 10 Featherweight ranking against the fast-rising Gavin Tucker.

UFC Vegas 21 is a nice little card, and one we can definitely profit from. Let’s find out how:

What Went Wrong at UFC 259?

It really looked like Rogerio Bontorin would staunch the bleeding, but an impressive comeback by Kai Kara-France (watch it) put the kibosh on that. It’s going to take awhile to recover from that one. At least I didn’t pull the trigger on a Yan recommendation — I’d have been tearing my hair out.

UFC Vegas 21 Odds For The Undercard:

J.J. Aldrich (-150) vs. Cortney Casey (+130)
Rani Yahya (-290) vs. Ray Rodriguez (+245)
Nasrat Haqparast (-265) vs. Rafa Garcia (+205)
Charles Jourdain (-255) vs. Marcelo Rojo (+215)
Jonathan Martinez (-325) vs. Davey Grant (+265)
Gloria de Paula (-190) vs. Jinh Yu Frey (+165)
Matthew Semelsberger (-130) vs. Jason Witt (+110)

Thoughts: Even though her line got a fair bit less favorable these last couple days, Gloria de Paula remains the card’s best bargain. The Chute Boxe-trained product has all the tools needed to beat down the smaller and self-destructively passive Jinh Yu Frey on the feet. And between de Paula’s improving takedown defense and Frey’s inability to get her wrestling going in the Octagon, odds are she’ll have free reign to bury Frey in output.

If you want to make the odds a little more favorable, Jonathan Martinez wouldn’t be the worst parlay stuffer. He’s looked better than ever lately and Grant — though a winner of two straight — can’t maintain that sort of brawling style against a far superior striker.

Besides them, Charles Jourdain looks like a worthwhile investment. His opponent, Marcelo Rojo, is moving up in weight, coming off an enormous layoff, and seemingly willing to trade hands with the destructive Canuck. Indeed, pair him up with Rani Yahya, who’s more than capable of punishing Rodriguez.

UFC Vegas 21 Odds For The Main Card:

Leon Edwards (-260) vs. Belal Muhammad (+220)
Misha Cirkunov (-125) vs. Ryan Spann (+105)
Dan Ige (-150) vs. Gavin Tucker (+130)
Angela Hill (-365) vs. Ashley Yoder (+305)
Manel Kape (-150) vs. Matheus Nicolau (+130)
Darren Stewart (-175) vs. Eryk Anders (+155)

Thoughts: In a battle of two men who’ve let me down in the past, I favor Misha Cirkunov over Ryan Spann by a decent margin. Cirkunov’s recent victory over Jimmy Crute, which I consider more impressive than any of Spann’s successful Octagon efforts, showed a welcome return to the wrestling-focused attack that made him such a problem on the regional circuit. Spann’s takedown defense has been far from impregnable in UFC, so while he’s got the power to short-circuit Cirkunov, I like the Latvian to drag him down and exploit “Superman’s” historically poor submission defense.

Angela Hill is the main card’s parlay stuffer of choice. She already beat Ashley Yoder once before and has shown considerably more improvement in her game than “Spider Monkey” has in the years since. Indeed, neither Claudia Gadelha nor Michelle Waterson managed to get their wrestling going against “Overkill,” so Yoder’s chances are slim.

UFC Vegas 21 Best Bets:

  • Parlay — Gloria de Paula and Jonathan Martinez: Bet $100 to make $100
  • Parlay — Misha Cirkunov and Angela Hill: Bet $80 to make $103.20
  • Parlay — Charles Jourdain and Rani Yahya: Bet $60 to make $52.17
