Leon Edwards’ first win in the UFC was a real “blink and you’ll miss it” affair.
The Brit had previously lost a split decision on his octagon debut to Claudio Silva, but the former BAMMA welterweight champion bounced back with a bang in his second UFC appearance when he took on Seth Baczynski at UFC Fight Night 64 in Krakow, Poland in April 2015.
Baczynski came out swinging as he stepped into the pocket and attempted to connect with a pair of big right hands. The American then attempted to throw a front kick to the body. It was the opening Edwards was looking for, and the Brit exploded with a huge straight left that dropped his man hard.
Edwards followed Baczynski to the mat to apply the finishing touches, as referee Grant Waterman dived in to spare The Ultimate Fighter veteran any unnecessary punishment.
The official clock stopped at eight seconds, making it tied for the sixth-fastest knockout in UFC history, and the second-fastest KO in UFC welterweight history. More importantly, it showed that Edwards’ punch power demanded respect on MMA’s biggest stage as he established a foothold in one of the most competitive divisions in the sport.
Edwards (18-3 MMA, 10-2 UFC) takes on Belal Muhammad (18-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC) in the main event of UFC Fight Night 187, which takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The event streams on ESPN+.
