Video: How will the UFC lightweight pieces fall into place?

The UFC lightweight division is moving forward – sort of.

We know right now that Khabib Nurmagomedov remains the champion despite being retired, and how that will ultimately shake out is anyone’s guess. Outside of that, though, things are developing.

For starters, Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor are on a path for a trilogy that would likely take place this summer. Then last week, MMA Junkie first reported that Tony Ferguson and Beneil Dariush have agreed to fight each other May 15 at UFC 262. So that leaves three main players in the division who need fights: Michael Chandler, Justin Gaethje and Charles Oliveira. You can also throw Rafael dos Anjos and Islam Makhachev into the mix as two guys outside of the top five who need fights.

Regardless, it’s an odd number, which means somebody will either be on hold or left out of a big matchup once the pieces fall into place. Who will that be? What would you like to see happen vs. what you think will happen?

We posted that question on this week’s episode of “Spinning Back Clique.” Check out the video above to hear “Georgeous” George Garcia, Nolan King, Farah Hannoun, and Simon Head weigh in. You can also watch the fill episode below.
