Is Jon Jones Slower At Heavyweight?

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is giving fight fans a glimpse at his new (but not necessarily improved) physique and how it might move inside the Octagon when “Bones” eventually makes his debut at heavyweight.

His flat feet and plodding padwork gives weight to this recent criticism from longtime rival Daniel Cormier. Then again, Jones may simply be warming up, winding down, or just trying to get loose inside the cage, but it sounds like he’s struggling to stay thick.

“More cardio means more food,” the ex-champ wrote on Twitter. “Back down to 245.”

There’s no timeline for Jones’ heavyweight debut, though we should expect the wheels to be put in motion after Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou hook ‘em up for a second time when the promotion stages the UFC 260 pay-per-view (PPV) event later this month in Las Vegas.

“The current champion is 38, I’m only 33,” Jones said. “Mark my words eventually I will have that belt around my waist. There’s no rush. I’ll just keep building my body, I’ll focus on doing all the right things outside of the octagon, and hopefully one day the company will see more value in me.”

If not, I hear Polish cherries taste good this time of year.
