Jose Augusto: My cut to light heavyweight for Bellator 255 was tough, but end result worth it

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Bellator 255 marked a number of firsts for Pitbull Brothers light heavyweight Jose Augusto.

After months of delay due to visa issues, Augusto (7-2 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) made his first walk to the Bellator cage Friday and beat former UFC fighter Jonathan Wilson by first-round submission.

“I am super happy and grateful for this opportunity, for my family, my friends and my fans for their support,” Augusto told MMA Junkie at a post-fight news conference. “I’m excited to see what’s next.”

The bout was Augusto’s debut at light heavyweight after he previously spent the entirety of his career fighting at heavyweight. Shedding the pounds was not easy, but he said the end result was worth it.

“The weight cut was tough,” Augusto said. “I really like to eat, just like every other athlete. So that was the toughest part. But other than that, I feel really good here, and this is my home now.”

With the victory, Augusto, 29, extended his winning streak to five. Bellator 255 was the first time Augusto fought outside of Brazil.

Bellator 255 took place Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena. The main card aired on Showtime as the promotion’s debut on the network. The entire event also streamed on MMA Junkie.
