Roman Faraldo channeled inner Marvin Hagler during Bellator 255 win: ‘War was on my mind’

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Roman Faraldo made sure to stay composed and not get overzealous during his Bellator 255 win over Trevor Gudde.

The fight took place on Friday’s preliminary card and saw Faraldo (5-0 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) finish 6-foot-7 welterweight Gudde (2-2 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) with punches in the opening round.

“We’re constantly working on that, just staying calm,” Faraldo said at a post-fight news conference. “You crack a guy, see it, recognize it, and then, just stay with the game plan. (I’m) not trying to rush anything. If you continue to taking your time, staying composed, the finish will come.”

Faraldo went into his fight against Gudde with a warlike mentality. At the post-fight news conference, Faraldo wore a red hat with those three letters as an homage to boxing great Marvin Hagler, who died in March.

“Inevitably, there was one thing on my mind,” Faraldo said. “It was war. War was on my mind. My man, Marvin Hagler: Rest in peace, brother. I went out there with that mentality to finish the fight like that and just stay composed in those moments.”

The TKO was Faraldo’s second in as many appearances. The Jorge Masvidal protege made his promotional debut at Bellator 252 in November when he defeated Pat Casey by a flying knee and punches.

Bellator 255 took place Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena. The main card aired on Showtime as the promotion’s debut on the network. The entire event also streamed on MMA Junkie.
