Colby Covington responds to Kamaru Usman’s inactivity dig: ‘Spoken like a true coward’

It didn’t take long for Colby Covington to respond to UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman’s latest comments.

Covington (16-2 MMA, 11-2 UFC) took to Twitter on Tuesday evening to fire back at Usman after the champ urged Covington to stay active if he wants another title shot.

“Show me some activity. Give me a reason,” Usman told ESPN. “… It’s time for him to show the people that he deserves another chance to fight for the title. You can’t sit back and say, ‘Oh, I beat Tyron Woodley. That’s it. I deserve a shot at the title.’ No. That doesn’t give you a shot at the title.”

Usman’s comments didn’t sit well with Covington, who fired back.

“Spoken like a true coward who doesn’t want to face the rightful #1 contender,” Covington tweeted. “The rankings have chosen and so have the people Marty. Just say the truth: you know you can’t win and you’d rather fight bums like Street Judas for easy pay checks.”

Usman is scheduled to make his fourth title defense in a rematch against Jorge Masvidal, which will serve as the main event of UFC 261 on April 24. Masvidal hasn’t fought in nine months, since he lost a lopsided unanimous decision to Usman back in July 2020.

Covington rebounded from his December 2019 loss to Usman with a stoppage win over ex-champ Woodley last September and has campaigned for both a rematch and a grudge match with Masvidal ever since.
