Jorge Masvidal is so confident he’ll beat Kamaru Usman at the UFC 261 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which takes place on Sat., April 24, 2021 inside VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla., that he’s already offering “The Nigerian Nightmare” a 170-pound rubber match.

“When I win the rematch, we definitely will go for the trilogy because I will not go down in history 1-1 with this individual,” Masvidal said during an ESPN+ Q&A hosted by Laura Sanko (via MMA Junkie). “It’s just not going to happen.”

Masvidal will get a full training camp to battle for the welterweight belt, as opposed to the six days notice he received when Gilbert Burns was benched with coronavirus and forced to withdraw. Absent the second time around will be his emergency weight cut.

“I’m not going to cut 20 pounds of weight now, mainly of water, in six days,” Masvidal said. “As I stand right now I’m eight, nine pounds before I hit the mark of 170. So it’s a different weight cut altogether. That’s going to be the main determining factor I think.”

We’ll find out later this month.

The UFC 261 PPV card, which also features the title fight between Valentina Shevchenko and Jessica Andrade, as well as Zhang Weili and Rose Namajunas, will be the first event to feature a full, live crowd in over a year.
