Adam Borics hopes Bellator 256 win earns title shot vs. Patricio ‘Pitbull’-A.J. McKee winner

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Adam Borics thinks he should be next in line for a shot at the Bellator featherweight championship.

Since getting eliminated from the featherweight grand prix by Darrion Caldwell in January 2020, Borics (17-1 MMA, 8-1 BMMA) has rebounded with three consecutive wins, most recently defeating Jeremy Kennedy by unanimous decision last Friday at Bellator 256.

With just the lone loss on his record, the Hungary-born fighter is eyeing the winner of the featherweight grand prix finals between champion Patricio Freire (20-5 MMA, 12-4 BMMA) and undefeated A.J. McKee (17-0 MMA, 17-0 BMMA), which is expected to take place later this summer.

“This is my goal, but let’s see what Bellator wants,” Borics told MMA Junkie at the post-fight news conference. “I am really happy that I get the opportunity to fight again during this crazy time, so I feel I’m ready to fight for a title. I have eight or nine fights in Bellator, so yes, I’d like to fight for the title next time.”

Borics is aware that he might have to wait a while before he gets to compete if he is indeed awarded the next title shot. He’s open to taking another bout to remain active but insists the title shot is his top priority.

“Let’s see when the final is and after we’ll figure it out,” Borics said. “This year I’d like to fight one more or two more times. I want to fight maximum three times a year because fighting at 145, for me, it’s not an easy cut, and I always train hard. I really want to fight for a title, but let’s see what Bellator wants. They are really good with me always, so let’s see what’s next.”

He continued, “This is the moment when I am ready. When I lost against Caldwell, I’m never gonna forget that. Coach Greg told me ‘this is the time when the kid becomes a man.’ That loss helped me a lot, and that’s why I’m a much better person and martial artist today, but 2021, this is my year. I’m gonna be a world champion in Bellator.”
