McGregor Blasts USADA For Sweeping Diaz Drug Violations Under Carpet

Mystic Mac is back and this time he’s predicting … a scandal inside of USADA where they’re no longer revealing who has tested positive for PEDS?

Conor McGregor has a massive rubber match with Dustin Poirier coming up on July 10th at UFC 264. And while we’re sure he’s concentrating hard on that, he’s also unfortunately very capable of multi-tasking, especially when it comes to posting incessantly on his social media accounts. Today’s leftfield rant? Directed towards USADA and Nate Diaz.

It all started with a video of McGregor working out like a fiend.

“USADA tested me right before this,” McGregor wrote. “Blood and urine. That’s twice this week. I don’t blame them, I’m a animal. What irks me though is there is never an announcement of athletes caught anymore? This means -1. They can keep it quiet. 2. Tainted supplement bullshit excuses are accepted.”

“Jeff Novitzky, how come the public isn’t told about positive tests anymore?” McGregor added in another tweet. “How after the Nate Diaz steroid debacle, where he produced his own nutrition companies tainted multivitamin, was instantly cleared prior to a mega money fight, are we now in the dark on test results?”

Maybe at first glance it might seem like USADA has been awful quiet lately. But a quick look at the USADA website reveals 5 incidents in 2021 where fighters have received warnings or sanctions for anti-doping violations. So McGregor is wrong about USADA no longer announcing suspensions in general. As far as Nate Diaz?

Well … Nate did fail a drug test leading up to his big BMF fight with Jorge Masvidal in November of 2019. And the UFC and USADA seemed willing to sweep it under the rug after Nate provided them with evidence of a tainted supplement. The only reason we know about it? Because Nate went and blabbed about the whole incident on Twitter.

“It was just a big secret and it was shady and it sounded like some s**t people on steroids are involved in,” Nate said at the time. “I didn’t feel comfortable with that. So I’m like let’s just put it on the table then. Because if you’re going to tell me right now that I’m going to test positive for some s**t and everyone is going to go buck wild, then I don’t even want to fight.”

“It’s only cheating if you jump in under the influence of that s**t, right?” he continued. “So I’m like let’s just say I did accidentally take this s**t, which I didn’t, but let’s say I did though. Well then let’s just f**king fight in a couple months when the s**t wears off. I have no problem with that. I don’t care if it ruins your show. You ain’t ruining my whole legacy. I’m all natural.”

So the question left lingering in the air is: if they were willing to sweep it under the rug once, how many other situations have been swept? Is McGregor seems to be suggest there’s more going on under the surface of USADA’s regime than we know. And who knows, maybe there is.

Of course it didn’t take long for Nate to respond.

Looks like there’ll be more than enough vitriol stocked up by the time McGregor and Diaz get around to their own trilogy fight. For now, Conor has Dustin Poirier to worry about and Nate Diaz has Leon Edwards on May 15th at UFC 262.
