In a rematch 10 years in the making — one for which no one really was really clamoring — No. 9-ranked Middleweight contender, Uriah Hall, got his chance at revenge at UFC 261 tonight (Sat., April 24, 2021), locking horns once more with former 185-pound champion and No. 11-seeded, Chris Weidman, inside VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

Much has changed since their first encounter under the Ring of Combat banner — Weidman hoisted UFC gold, while Hall struggled to live up to lofty expectations after his terrifying run on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). More recently, Hall has finally started to put it together, winning three straight and four of his last five, while Weidman has been on a dreadful 2-5 skid since 2015.

Something had to give, and in the end, it was Weidman’s right leg, which snapped in two after unleashing just one heavy low kick very early in the opening round.

Both fighters touched gloves, with Weidman pumping a jab and then unleashing a low kick that Hall checked. Weidman stepped back, but his right shin was snapped in half much like Anderson Silva at UFC 168 back in Dec. 2013. Weidman was in agony instantly — he had actually tried to put weight on it not realizing it was broken and it folded in half. The ringside doctors rushed in immediately, got him in an air cast and stretchered him out of the cage. Hall — and the rest of the arena, announcers and everyone watching — were all mortified.

The fight lasted just 17 seconds, but Weidman’s road to recovery will take much, much longer. Get well soon, champ.
