Former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor agreed to make a $500,000 donation to Dustin Poirier’s “Good Fight” foundation under the condition “The Diamond” accepted a lightweight rematch, a bout that started as an exhibition but later became a UFC headliner.

Poirier held up his end of the bargain — and then some.

As for McGregor … well, that’s where it gets complicated. While the charity gift seemed like a foregone conclusion, particularly after this post-fight video, McGregor never followed through with the money, though he seemed to have a reasonable explanation.

Fortunately for those in the need, the money finally arrived.

Unfortunately for Poirier, and the charities at the top of his list, it wasn’t delivered to “The Good Fight” but rather to the Boys & Girls Club of Acadiana in Lafayette, Louisiana, according to TMZ, where “The Diamond” was born and raised.

“Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana received an unexpected call last week and are humbled to share that Conor McGregor is donating $500,000 to impact youth in South Louisiana by supporting our upcoming 2021 Summer Camp and ongoing health and recreation activities in our 6 Club sites,” the Boys & Girls Club announced on Facebook. “This investment is a gamechanger! Thank you, Conor, for helping to ensure that our kids have what they need to grow and thrive this summer!”

Poirier has yet to comment.

With the score tied one apiece, McGregor and Poirier will settle their trilogy on the upcoming UFC 264 pay-per-view (PPV) card on July 10 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, an event that is expected to welcome fans back to “Sin City” sporting events.
