Still The King!

Light heavyweight knockout artist Jiri Prochazka is the talk of the 205-pound town after smashing No. 1-ranked title contender Dominick Reyes in the UFC Vegas 25 main event earlier this month in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In fact, his destruction of “The Devastator” may have been enough to earn “Denisa” a crack at the 205-pound strap, which Jan Blachowicz will put on the line against fellow light heavyweight slugger Glover Teixeira at UFC 266 later this year.

But even if Prochazka becomes champion, Jon Jones will still be the “king.”

“He’s the king of the light heavyweight division,” Prochazka told RT Sport (transcribed by Jed Meshew). “I think he would be the greatest opponent of the light heavyweight division for me. But he’s now in heavyweight, so what now? So yeah, I’m a little bit, not sorry, I’m not sorry for that, but I think when he will be in light heavyweight that will be more dangerous for everybody.”

The heavyweight-bound Jones vacated his title in late 2020.

It’s hard to know what the future will bring for Jones, who seems hellbent on fighting heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou for what is expected to be a record-breaking payday. If that fight fails to materialize, we may see Jones return to 205 pounds.

Assuming he returns at all.

“I’m looking for the toughest fighters,” Prochazka said. “The toughest fighters, the first one was Volkan (Oezdemir) and I think he is great but there is a better opponent before him. Dominick was one of the greatest opponents in light heavyweight division, I think. His style is very unique and very dangerous. And the next one I think, now, is Blachowicz. That’s what I’m looking for now.”

I think Teixeira might have something to say about that.
