Newly-crowned UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira, like some of the other big names before him, received a hero’s welcome upon his return home to Brazil, a celebration of his title-winning performance over Michael Chandler at UFC 262 on May 15 in Houston.

But just because “Do Bronx” is king of the 155-pound kingdom doesn’t mean he’s completely closed the door on his run at featherweight, despite some previous struggles to hit the 145-pound limit (more on that here).

“I still feel like a featherweight,” Oliveira told reporters after winning the lightweight title (via MMA Fighting). “If Dana White gave me the opportunity to go back to the featherweight division and win, I’d take it.”

With so much work to do at 155 pounds, starting with a title defense against the winner of this upcoming showdown on July 10 in Las Vegas, “Do Bronx” (31-8, 1 NC) should plan on sticking around for the foreseeable future.

Though at age 31, time is definitely on Oliveira’s side.
