Font Facing Possible Six-Month Medical Suspension

UFC Vegas 27 injuries and medical suspensions were submitted to MixedMartialArts.com earlier this week for those athletes competing at the “Font vs. Garbrandt” event last weekend (Sat., May 22, 2021) inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas.

Not surprisingly, a fair share of combatants were handed mandatory timeouts, including bantamweight headliners Rob Font and Cody Garbrandt. Font could be looking at six months on the sidelines pending leg X-rays, while “No Love” was hit with a 60-day sit.

Rob Font def. Cody Garbrandt
Font: Suspended 180 days or until right tibia, fibula, ankle and foot are cleared by a doctor; also suspended for 30 days with no contact for 21 days.
Garbrandt: Suspended for 60 days with no contact for 45 days.

Carla Esparza def. Yan Xiaonan
Esparza: No suspension
Xiaonan: Suspended for 30 days with no contact for 21 days due to forehead laceration.

Jared Vanderaa def. Justin Tafa
Vanderaa: Suspended for 45 days with no contact for 30 days or until facial lacerations on nose and above right eyebrow cleared by a doctor.
Tafa: Suspended 180 days or until left hand is cleared by a doctor; also suspended for 30 days with no contact for 21 days.

Norma Dumont def. Felicia Spencer
Dumont: No suspension
Spencer: Suspended 180 days or until right knee is cleared by a doctor; also suspended for 21 days with no contact for 14 days.

Ricardo Ramos def. Bill Algeo
Ramos: No suspension
Algeo: Suspended 180 days or until right wrist and ankle are cleared by a doctor; also suspended for 21 days with no contact for 14 days.

Jack Hermansson def. Edmen Shahbazyan
Hermansson: Suspended for 30 days with no contact for 21 days due to hard fight.
Shahbazyan: Suspended for 45 days with no contact for 30 days due to facial lacerations around both eyebrows.

Ben Rothwell def. Chris Barnett
Rothwell: Suspended for 21 days with no contact for 14 days due to nasal laceration.
Barnett: Suspended 180 days or until right knee is cleared by a doctor; also suspended for 30 days with no contact for 21 days.

Court McGee def. Claudio Silva
McGee: Suspended for 21 days with no contact for 14 days.
Silva: Suspended for 30 days with no contact for 21 days.

Bruno Silva def. Victor Rodriguez
Silva: Suspended 180 days or until right hand is cleared by a doctor; also suspended for 30 days with no contact for 21 days.
Rodriguez: Suspended for 45 days with no contact for 30 days.

Josh Culibao def. Shayilan Nuerdanbieke
Culibao: No suspension
Nuerdanbieke: Suspended 180 days or until bilateral laminapapyracea fractures are cleared by a doctor; also suspended for 30 days with no contact for 21 days.

David Dvorak def. Juancamilo Ronderos
Dvorak: No suspension
Ronderos: No suspension

Damir Ismagulov def. Rafael Alves
Ismagulov: No suspension
Alves: No suspension

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
