New Rankings! Esparza Takes Over No. 3 Spot

Former UFC strawweight champion Carla Esparza won her fifth straight fight by smashing fellow 115-pound contender Xiaonan Yan in the UFC Vegas 27 co-main event last Sat. night (May 22, 2021) inside APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada, landing at No. 3 in the division. rankings as a result.

Message received.

Elsewhere on the charts, longtime middleweight contender Jack Hermansson jumped one spot to No. 6 by outpointing Edmen Shahbazyan, demoting Darren Till in the process. As for UFC Vegas 27 headliner Rob Font, he holds steady at No. 3 after outclassing Cody Garbrandt, who drops to No. 5 in defeat.

Here’s how UFC compiles its “official” rankings:

Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.
