To call Eddie Alvarez’s time in ONE Championship the past couple years rocky might be polite.

Alvarez’s debut in the promotion in March 2019 was a first-round upset knockout loss to Timofey Nastyukhin. He got back on track with a first-round submission of Eduard Folayang later that year.

But after 20 months off in large part due to the pandemic, Alvarez returned in April and thought he had a win over Iuri Lapicus. Instead, he was disqualified for punches to the back of the head. On appeal, Alvarez got that DQ loss overturned to a no contest. But three weeks later, he lost a unanimous decision to Rae Yoon OK at ONE on TNT IV, making him officially 1-2 under the Asian promotion’s banner.

A visit to Alvarez’s Wikipedia page Saturday morning didn’t show him with a 30-8 record. It showed him as 33-7 – with adjustments made, likely by an Alvarez fan, to change:

By 11:25 a.m. ET, edits had been made to reflect something a little closer to reality – with the OK fight changed to a loss. But the record still showed him with wins over Poirier and Lapicus instead of no contests.

The last two of the original changes seemed to reflect Alvarez’s response on Twitter to ONE champion Christian Lee, who in an interview on the Jake Shields Podcast said Alvarez needs to do a lot better than his current start in the promotion if he wants a title shot.

“Whenever they sign a big name, a guy like Eddie, he’s definitely a guy that I wanted to fight once he got signed to the promotion,” Lee said on the show. “Nothing against him, but he’s 1-3 in the promotion. And as much as I want to fight him, because I think it would be a good draw, really he’s got to do more before he gets a title shot.”

And to that, Alvarez offered a response saying he submitted Folayang (true), knocked out Lapicus (true, save for the part about being disqualified and it not being a win on his record), and beat OK (false).

“Haha you mean like choke Eduard , KO Lapicus , then beat OK …” Ohhh yeah Did that already … You are well protected @christianleemma and if the promotion believed you could beat me this fight would have Have happened already 👊🏻👊🏻🔪🔪 Id finish You whenever I wanted”

Lee won ONE’s 170-pound title with a TKO of Shinya Aoki in May 2019 about a month before his 21st birthday. After a win over Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev, he defended the belt with a TKO of Lapicus in October 2020, then knocked out Nastyukhin in April.

Neither Lee nor Alvarez have their next fights booked.
