Tale Of The Tape: Floyd Mayweather Vs. Logan Paul

Let’s take a look at the stats on this ‘super exhibition’ bout and see what it says about the fight.

In a few short hours, Floyd Mayweather will step back into the boxing ring to do battle against an unlikely opponent: YouTube sensation Logan Paul, who was selected by Floyd because his follower count was high and his boxing record (0-1) was abysmally low.

There’s some sweet revenge for the combat sports world playing out tonight. Logan’s little brother Jake hand picked UFC veteran Ben Askren for his fight because Ben can’t punch and recently retired due to hip surgery. Now Floyd is picking someone equally lame in Jake’s older brother Logan. It’s almost kinda poetic.

Everyone agrees, this is going to be a slaughter. If Logan Paul couldn’t do anything significant in his sole boxing bout against British YouTuber KSI, what chances does he have against 50-0 GOAT contender Mayweather?

But we can excuse people for thinking there may be a potential spoiler hidden somewhere in this very straightforward squash match. And that comes from knowing little about boxing and looking at some of the wide numbers in the tale of the tape.

Age

Floyd Mayweather is 44. Logan Paul is 26. That’s 18 years old. You could take the difference up to a strip club in Canada and get it drunk, that’s how big the difference is there. And let’s be clear: age does come for all fighters. Losing a fraction of a second off your reaction time could mean defeat … if you’re facing a young legit boxer like Vergil Ortiz Jr or Kudratillo Abdukakhorov. Against a hard partying Instagram influencer knucklehead who has never honed their reaction time outside of a video game, it won’t matter.

Weight

Floyd Mayweather weighed in at 155 pounds and fought across his career from 130 pounds up to 154 pounds before. Logan Paul weighed in at 189.5 pounds, and probably cut down about 10 pounds considering he weighed in at 199.4 pounds for his bout against KSI. Again, that’s a big difference! 34.5 pounds is about the weight of an average 4 year old child. And like a 4 year old child in the ring against Mayweather, it will be completley useless. Mayweather’s speed and defense is legendary. What use is an extra 34.5 pounds of punching power if you can’t hit your opponent?

Height and Reach

Floyd Mayweather is 5’8”. Logan Paul is 6’2”. Floyd’s reach is 72” while Logan’s is 76”. Please don’t be the kind of noob fan that thinks 4” of length will mean anything. There are guys with 80”+ arms who never learn how to utilize them because it takes years of building fundamentals before you have the ability to use foot movement and distance analysis and jab skills to do anything useful.

Record

The key metric. The real tale, no tape needed. Floyd Mayweather is 50-0. Logan Paul is 0-1. Mayweather’s resume is a who’s who of boxing greats from our era. PAcquiao, Maidana, Canelo Alvarez, Cotto, Mosely, De La Hoya, Judah, Castillo, Chavez. Logan Paul’s sole defeat comes to fellow YouTube guy KSI, whose sole fight was against Logan Paul.

KOs

Floyd Mayweather has 27 knockouts in his 50 fights. Logan Paul has 27 less than Floyd Mayweather.

We’d say Floyd is about to add another knockout to his record, but this is an exhibition bout and it won’t count … something Mayweather probably insisted on to keep his record a nice clean 50-0.
