Jason Jackson wants title shot vs. Yaroslav Amosov: ‘That’s the fight everyone wants to see’

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Jason Jackson is ready to fight for Bellator gold.

The welterweight contender thinks it’s time he gets in a title fight now that he’s on a five-fight winning streak. Jackson (15-4 MMA, 5-1 BMMA) extended it Friday night when he outpointed Paul Daley in a unanimous decision in the co-main event of Bellator 260. The bout was contested at a 175-pound catchweight.

Jackson told reporters at the Bellator 260 post-fight conference that he felt he’d be up next if then-champion Douglas Lima were to lose his belt to Yaroslav Amosov. And the title fight in the main event right in place minutes later, as Amosov overwhelmed Lima with wrestling to win a unanimous decision.

“Right now MVP, (but) if Douglas Lima loses tonight, then maybe we’ll see a matchup with MVP and Lima,” Jackson said. “And I’ll be fighting Amosov because that’s the fight everyone wants to see.”

Jackson, who trains out of SanfordMMA in South Florida, has built quite an impressive run, besting notable names such as Neiman Gracie, Benson Henderson, Jordan Mein, and now Daley.

The bout with Daley wasn’t exciting as many hoped for, and many fans booed Jackson in the arena for his wrestling-heavy approach. Jackson is completely unfazed by what people may think of his performance.

“I told myself like, ‘Don’t fight for the fans, fight for you and your family and your well being and everyone who believes in you,’” Jackson explained. “I’ve fought more in front of fans than without the fans, and sometimes no matter you do, you come out here and do 150 percent and they’re never going to be satisfied. They’ll see what they want to see.”
