Kayla Harrison’s strength and conditioning coach thinks she’ll be even better at 145 pounds

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. – Strength and conditioning coach Jeremy Fedoruk expects Kayla Harrison’s performances to be even better once she commits to 145 pounds.

Harrison (9-0), who currently competes at 155 pounds, made her featherweight debut this past November when she stopped Courtney King in the second round at Invicta FC 43.

The 2019 PFL women’s lightweight champion admitted she was pleasantly surprised at how good she felt, acknowledging she’d have a size and strength advantage when competing at 145 pounds.

And Fedoruk agrees.

“It goes without saying, (Harrison is an) amazing athlete, extremely disciplined. You could tell her a couple of things – she’ll do it 20 times and get it done perfect every time,” Fedoruk recently told MMA Junkie. “But for her, really just monitor and just keep her working. Keep her on schedule and she’s good. 145 obviously is where she’ll end up – the writing’s on the wall. But she’s great at ’55. She’ll be even better at ’45, and the rest you’ll see soon.”

Fedoruk explained that despite Harrison having to shed an extra 10 pounds to hit the featherweight mark, there isn’t much she has to change in preparation.

“Big thing is just watch your volume during camp,” Fedoruk said. “Everybody gets nicks and bruises. Minimize your nicks and bruises, stay fresh and watch your caloric intake, watch what you’re eating, and then start your cut a little sooner if need be.”

Following her successful featherweight debut at the end of 2020 in a one-off with Invicta FC, Harrison returned to lightweight for the 2021 PFL season. She picked up a first-round TKO of Mariana Morais in her first fight. She’s scheduled to face Cindy Dandois in the 2021 PFL 6 main event June 25 in her quest for another $1 million.
