Arms Don’t Bend That Way

Tap, nap, or … whatever the hell that is.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) strawweight standout Kanako Murata suffered a second-round technical knockout loss to Virna Jandiroba by way of floppy arm at the UFC Vegas 29 mixed martial arts (MMA) event last weekend in Las Vegas.

Referee Chris Tognoni stopped the bout on the advice of the cageside physician.

The injury dropped Murata to 12-2, a disappointing setback for the Japanese import particularly in the wake of her UFC debut victory over the venerable Randa Markos back in late 2020, which at the time marked her eighth straight win.

“Thank you for your generous support UFC,” Murata wrote on social media. “I will be stronger and come back.”

The extent of her injury, as well as the timeline for her return, have yet to be revealed.

Jandiroba, responsible for the damage with her first-round armbar attempt, improved to 17-2 and now stands at 3-2 inside the Octagon.
