Kennedy Nzechukwu doesn’t fear Danilo Marques’ ground game going into UFC Fight Night 190

LAS VEGAS – Kennedy Nzechukwu is not ignorant to the path of least resistance against Danilo Marques.

Nzechukwu (8-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) has shown off some vicious striking in his short octagon tenure, but on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 190 he gets paired up with a grappling specialist in Masques (11-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC). The light heavyweight bout takes place at the UFC Apex and streams on ESPN+.

That means it’s in Nzechukwu’s best interest to keep the fight standing, which is certainly his goal.

Ahead of the bout, Nzechukwu attended UFC Fight Night 190 media day on Wednesday and discussed making adjustments from his “Fight of the Night” win over Carlos Ulberg at UFC 259, his approach to fighting Marques and more.

“I know I haven’t had the chance to show my takedown defense, but I do have good jiu-jitsu and takedown defense,” Nzechukwu told MMA Junkie. “Wherever the fight goes I’m willing to go there. Just more pressure, more aggressiveness and not walking through shots, but utilize my movement and get him out of there, whether it takes one, two or three rounds.

“I’m willing to show my ground game. Definitely I don’t want to give him the easy road to victory, so I’m going to stuff all the takedowns and try to make him work harder. The longer it goes, I know it’s definitely good for me with my cardio, but I’m going to display all my skills wherever the fight goes.”
