UFC free fight: Dustin Poirier exacts his revenge by knocking out Conor McGregor

Dustin Poirier was able to avenge his loss to Conor McGregor in emphatic fashion.

In their first meeting, which took place in 2014, McGregor made quick work of Poirier by stopping him in Round 1. The pair ran things back over six years later in the main event of UFC 257 in January, and things would play out much differently.

McGregor stormed out the gate, looking to press the action right off the bat. Both men had their success in Round 1, with McGregor sending Poirier stumbling back with a few shots, and “The Diamond” chopping away with calf kicks. Poirier landed a brief takedown, but McGregor then did a good job of working his way back up. The round ended with both men connecting with good punches as things started to heat up.

In Round 2, McGregor continued to charge forward, but Poirier countered with leg kicks, which started to hinder his opponent’s movement. Poirier did a better job of moving out of harm’s way and started taking control of the fight. Midway through the round, he was able to back McGregor up, who had a hard time circling away to the center of the octagon. Poirier unleashed a flurry, eventually landing the knockout blow, which finished the fight.

Poirier (27-6 MMA, 19-5 UFC) returns to action at UFC 264 when he takes on McGregor (22-5 MMA, 10-3 UFC) in a rubber match which headlines UFC 264 on July 10 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Before they square off for a third time, relive Poirier’s finish of McGregor in the video above.
