Christian Edwards ready for step up in competition – and maybe a chance with legends like Manhoef, Machida, Romero

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Christian Edwards stayed unbeaten Friday, though he had to go the distance to do it.

Edwards (5-0 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) spoiled Simon Biyong’s (7-2 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) promotional debut with a unanimous decision to open the main card at Bellator 261. It was his second decision win in five fights to open his career.

Afterward, Edwards, a key training partner of former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, said he’s ready to take a step up in competition. He even said he’d be willing to help “retire” some legends like Melvin Manhoef, Lyoto Machida or Yoel Romero.

Bellator 261 took place Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The main card aired on Showtime following prelims on MMA Junkie.
