Daniel Weichel excited to get back on track, but says still work to be done

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – It wasn’t easy, but Daniel Weichel broke out of his slump and handed Keoni Diggs the first loss of his pro career.

Weichel (41-12 MMA, 10-4 BMMA), a longtime featherweight contender, took a split decision from Diggs (9-1 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) on the Bellator 261 main card Friday. Weichel had been in a 1-3 skid that started when he dropped a split call to featherweight champion Patricio Freire in a title challenge in July 2018.

Now that he’s back in the win column for the first time since September 2019, Weichel said there’s excitement to get back on track – but that he also knows he’s got work to do if he wants to get back to title contention.

Bellator 261 took place Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The main card aired on Showtime following prelims on MMA Junkie.
