McGregor Talks Training: ‘It’s Been Nothing But Mixed Martial Arts’

Conor McGregor did an impromptu Q&A with fans and revealed how his weight is, what his training has been like, and his UFC 264 fight week schedule, amongst other things.

We’re a week away from UFC 264: Poirier vs. McGregor 3 and Conor McGregor is officially out of his self-imposed media blackout and doing a bunch of press. One of the first things he did? Hop on Instagram Live to field questions and comments from fans, including one Justin Bieber.

“Justin I love you bro, I’ll tell you I appreciate that message from the last fight,” McGregor said. “That meant a hell of a lot to me, it really, truly did.”

From there it was some of talk about his yacht and sportscars, some about his newest child Rían McGregor, and a lot about his preparation for the third Dustin Poirier fight.

“I’ve been busy flat out putting the work in,” McGregor said. “Full focus, fully immersed in mixed martial arts, it’s been nothing but mixed martial arts. So I’m ready to put on a show.”

That’s apparently a contrast to the last training camp for Poirier, which was treated almost like an appetizer for a boxing showdown against Manny Pacquiao. Here’s how that’s going these days.

“I’ve got Tristan Kennedy with me, top nutritionist. Has me in the best shape of my life,” Conor continued. “The most energy I’ve ever had coming into a weight cut. Weight is on point, it’s only what, a little bit over 24 hours before the fight. Where Abu Dhabi was almost three days. So that’s going to be in my favor and I’m more excited about it, excited to get on those scales.”

According to McGregor, he’ll be arriving in Las Vegas on Wednesday via private jet, just a little bit before the public UFC 264 pre-fight press conference on Thursday. We imagine it’ll almost feel like a vacation after all the hard training he’s been getting even in this last week before fight week.

“I’ve been doing single sessions the last week or so. We’ve halved the work the last week or so,” McGregor said. “So the body is getting ready now. I still sparred, I still grappled heavy, still done tough training. And I suppose the cycling is like a second session as well, so…. I’ve been almost getting three sessions a day.”

“I’ve been cycling to the gym, getting my training in, and then going home and then going back to the gym again. So that’s essentially three sessions a day I’ve been doing.”

During a recent interview, Conor’s good friend and training partner Artem Lobov said a dedicated and motivated McGregor is unstoppable. How’s he sounding to you, Maniacs?
