Max Griffin plans to capitalize on the grandest of stages at UFC 264 by cannibalizing Carlos Condit’s crowd.

Max Griffin plans to cash in big at the expense of Carlos Condit at UFC 264: Poirier vs. McGregor 3.

Griffin has secured the biggest opportunity of his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) career, matching up with former UFC Interim Welterweight champion Condit on the undercard of UFC 264, taking place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV on Sat., July 10 via ESPN+ pay-per-view. “Pain” has had “The Natural Born Killer” for the better part of a year, dating back to Griffin’s TKO win over Ramiz Brahimaj at UFC Vegas 13.

“I call him out after I beat Ramiz, took his ear. I thought it would be a good match-up, but they didn’t like it,” Griffin told MMAmania.com. “They wanted him to fight Matt Brown. It was an old fogey kind of fight. An old legend kind of fight. Not that they’re that old, but they seem old. They have a lot of mileage, ya know?

“Once they gave him Matt Brown, I thought it was over,” he continued. “Low and behold they call me and say, ‘Do you want to fight Carlos Condit at UFC 264?’ I said, f—k ya.’ I said yes on the phone and it took him two weeks to sign, and then another week for the bout agreement.”

Griffin (17-8) is conscious of the moment ahead; however, he enters the Octagon with a calm presence.

“It’s interesting. It’s a super big deal. It’s a super big deal, right?” he mulled. “But at the same time it’s not a big deal. It’s a fight. But I’m glad they’re letting me fight in front of all these people. It’s going to be good for me and my stock. I’m going to take all his fans when I beat him.”

The Sacramento resident enters UFC 264 on the first winning streak of his five-year tenure with the promotion, scoring consecutive finishes of Brahimaj and Song Kenan. He credits his change in fortunes to a mental coach and having fun in the chaos.

“I’m hitting that sweet up. Really it’s my mental coach, Danny Patterson. That’s what I really attribute all that to. Also going to Team Alpha Male,” he explained. “I have a strong mind, but I was putting too much pressure on myself. He really got me to see what I need to do to be the best version of myself. THat’s what I’ve been working on exclusively. I’ve had him for these last two fights.

“Everyone’s different. We had to spend a month figuring out who am I? Everyone’s different,” Griffin continued. “What means s—t to me might mean something different to someone else. Once I found that out, being accountable for those and leaving no stone unturned and training with purpose. When I’m having fun and enjoying myself, that’s when I’m at my best… Took the man’s ear off. That’s the first example of me having a good time.”

As for Condit, it’s kill or be killed: “I’m going to f—king finish him.”
