‘The itch is getting stronger and stronger!’ Chad Mendes teases MMA comeback

Chad Mendes continues to tease a potential MMA comeback by posting an array of intense training videos.

The former two-time UFC featherweight title challenger announced his retirement in December 2018 after suffering a TKO loss to current 145-pound champion Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 232, but he appears to be getting the itch to fight again.

Mendes (18-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC) has looked in great shape lately, actively training at Team Alpha Male with boxing coach Joey Rodriguez. He took to Instagram on Monday night to suggest that he’s open for a return if the numbers are right.

Another hard boxing session with @joey_rodriguez916 crushed!!

The timing, power, footwork and speed have been coming together the last few weeks! Been loving the @miketyson and @canelo style of boxing baby!

The itch is getting stronger and stronger! Might have to start talking some numbers soon…..👊🏽👊🏽

Since hanging up his gloves, Mendes has focused on numerous businesses outside of fighting, including his “Finz & Featherz” hunting and fishing adventure company. While the 36-year-old perennial contender lost four of six before he retired, he looked competitive in those setbacks, giving the likes of Conor McGregor, Jose Aldo and Volkanovski memorable wars.

Mendes’ last win inside the octagon came in 2018, when he returned from a two-year long U.S. Anti-Doping Agency suspension to knock Myles Jury out in the first round, which earned him the “Performance of the Night” bonus.

Do you want to see Mendes back? UFC lightweight contender Michael Chandler certainly does.
