Conor McGregor didn’t get much sympathy from Dustin Poirier after snapping his leg against his longtime rival in the UFC 264 pay-per-view (PPV) main event last Sat. night (July 10, 2021) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Probably because of the awful things McGregor said about “The Diamond’s” wife, Jolie Poirier. In fact, a worked-up “Notorious” continued to shout this ridiculous narrative even as medics were carting him from the scene.

“This guy was saying he’s going to murder me and all kinds of stuff, he’s going to kill me, I’m going to leave here in a coffin,” Poirier said after the fight. “You don’t talk like that to people man. Karma’s not a bitch, she’s a mirror, and this guy’s said the wrong shit.”

McGregor has always been a master of mind games, dating all the way back to his rookie year in UFC, to the point where former ZUFFA head cheese Lorenzo Fertitta was comparing him to Muhammad Ali, one of the best talkers in all of sports.

But somewhere along the line “Notorious” stopped focusing on the actual fighters and started digging into their personal lives, which includes this attack against Khabib Nurmagomedov during the “darkest” press conference in UFC history.

Not surprisingly, “The Eagle” had about as much sympathy as Poirier.

“Good always defeats evil,” Nurmagomedov said at the conclusion of the UFC 264 headliner. Very happy for Dustin Poirier, I hope [he] will get the belt [by] end of the year.”

Nurmagomedov, who retired from competition after back-to-back victories over Poirier and Justin Gaethje, submitted McGregor at UFC 229 to retain the lightweight title. But that hasn’t stopped him from taking swipes at “Notorious” when the opportunity arises.

And he’s not the only one.

Poirier, 32, who successfully completed his McGregor trilogy at UFC 264 after previous fights at UFC 178 (L) and UFC 257 (W), will move on to challenge reigning lightweight champion Charles Oliveira at some point later this year.
