Surgically-Repaired Mac Dismisses ‘Illegitimate’ Loss

“Mystic Mac” predicts a much different fight in round two, which never came to fruition after the power-punching Irishman snapped his leg in half.

Conor McGregor insists he did not lose to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.

That’s because “Notorious” — who previously scrubbed his record of fight-ending submissions — believes the doctor’s stoppage in last weekend’s headliner was “illegitimate” and the only thing to prevent a comeback in the second stanza.

McGregor was down on the first-round scorecards by a score of 30-25.

“Dustin, you can celebrate the illegitimate win all you want but you’ve done nothing in there,” McGregor told his Twitter followers. “That second round would have shown all. And you know onwards and upwards we go team. We dust ourselves off. We build ourselves back and we comeback better than ever. Let’s go team!”

After getting knocked around for most of the opening frame, McGregor suffered a broken leg and was unable to continue. Sunday morning’s surgery was deemed a success and the 33 year-old Irishman is expected to be off crutches in roughly six weeks.

“The surgery was successful repairing fractures of his tibia and fibula,” manager Audie Attar wrote. “His physicians included Dr. Neal El Attrache from Kerlan-Jobbe. Conor’s long time orthopedist and trauma surgeon Dr. Milton Little from Cedars-Sinai. Both doctors are confident that with time he will make a full recovery. We anticipate his return to the Octagon.”

UFC President Dana White recently teased a fourth fight between Poirier and McGregor but that likely won’t take place until some point in 2022 — if it takes place at all. In the meantime, “The Diamond” is expected to return against lightweight champion Charles Oliveira later this year.
