Mac Booted From Top 5 Following Latest Loss

It’s been a rough couple of days for Conor McGregor, who not only broke his leg in the UFC 264 main event — registering his second straight loss to Dustin Poirier in the process — but also fell out of the Top 5 for the first time since moving up to lightweight back in late 2016.

And there’s nothing he can do about it until 2022.

“Notorious” dropped to No. 7 at 155 pounds behind former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos (No. 6) and ex-interim titleholder Tony Ferguson (No. 5). Poirier holds his position at No. 1 and will move on to challenge division champion Charles Oliveira later this year.

Here’s how UFC compiles its “official” rankings:

Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.
