Ali Abdelaziz campaigns for Fabricio Werdum vs. Fedor 2: ‘Scott Coker, give the people what they want’

LAS VEGAS – Ali Abdelaziz says Scott Coker is the missing piece to make the Fabricio Werdum vs. Fedor Emelianenko rematch happen.

Werdum (24-9-1) recently made the pitch to welcome Emelianenko (39-6 MMA, 3-2 BMMA) back to the Bellator cage for his return headliner in Russia on Oct. 23, claiming he was never the GOAT.

Although the former UFC heavyweight champion is currently under a contract with PFL, an organization official told MMA Junkie’s John Morgan the promotion would be willing to allow Werdum the opportunity to fight Emelianenko if it was offered to him.

“Scott Coker, give the people what they want,” Abdelaziz told MMA Junkie. “PFL is already down. You’re down. Let’s make Werdum vs. Fedor next. Scott Coker is the man to pull the trigger because Don Davis from Bellator and Pete Murray, they said yes. Now Scott Coker needs to say yes. That’s it: simple.”

Werdum snapped Emelianenko’s incredible 28-fight winning streak with an upset submission in 2010. Emelianenko would get a chance to finally redeem himself if a rematch was booked. “The Last Emperor” hasn’t competed since a first-round TKO of Quinton Jackson at Bellator 237 in December 2019.

Werdum is coming off a no contest at 2021 PFL 3 in May, when his knockout loss to Renan Ferreira was overturned to a no contest after the tape review concluded the referee missed what should’ve been a fight-ending tapout by Ferreira.
