Mickey Gall hopes to show off hands at UFC on ESPN 27: ‘It’s about time I got some knockouts’

Mickey Gall has been alternating wins and losses of late, but he’s shown promising moments in those setbacks.

Gall (6-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC), a “Dana White: Looking For a Fight” signee, practically has grown up inside the octagon with all but one of his nine professional fights coming in the UFC.  He’s split his past four appearances and is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Mike Perry in June 2020. Gall outstruck Perry to win Round 1 on all three judges’ scorecards, but Perry was able to mix things up by surprisingly taking Gall to the ground and rallying for the win.

Looking back at his losses, Gall chalks it up to strategic errors, something he’s been working on during his time off.

“I would say tactically is big where, yeah, I can watch the fight back and obviously you learn more from the losses,” Gall told MMA Junkie. “I think it’s just gonna come with experience. That’s why I’ve been trying to stay active. Obviously the injury earlier this year didn’t help that, but I don’t have as many fights as a lot of guys in the UFC still, but I also kind of feel like a veteran in some ways. I’ve been co-main event twice, I’ve been on main cards. I’ve been under the bright lights and had almost 10 UFC fights, but I’d say tactics is probably the biggest thing, and that’s something I’m overcoming now.”

Gall returns to action on Saturday when he faces Dana White Contender Series alum Jordan Williams (9-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) at UFC on ESPN 27, and with his jiu-jitsu background and ever-improving striking, Gall is confident that he has the edge in all aspects of the fight.

“I see myself getting the win wherever the fight goes,” Gall said. “Last time vs. Perry, you would have thought it was a striker vs. grappler match and he ended up shooting on me and wrestling with me. I don’t know, it’s MMA, so you gotta be ready for anything – wherever the fight goes, you gotta be able to win it anywhere. I think Jordan is a complete martial artist. He’s got striking. He’s got wrestling, but I do think I’m better in both areas and wherever the fight goes, I’ll still have the advantage.”

The New Jersey native has been spending a lot of time training with veteran and UFC welterweight Matt Brown, who will be in his corner on Saturday. While all five of his finishes have come by submission, Gall hopes to show off his hands Saturday.

“I’d like to get a knockout,” Gall said. “I can see the knockout. I can see me putting him unconscious, but like I said, I think I can beat him anywhere. He’s a durable dude. If we go three rounds, we go three rounds. I’ll win every round, put my hands on him. It’s gonna be good. He’s a tough kid. He’s a warrior, but I think I can win the fight in any facet where it goes. If we’re on the ground, if we’re wrestling, if we’re on the feet. I can submit him, but I think the knockout’s coming. I wanna get some knockouts. It’s about time I got some knockouts.”
