Georges St-Pierre is cool with his statue looking like Barack Obama

In case you missed it last month, former UFC two-division champion Georges St-Pierre was immortalized last month with a statue in his hometown of St-Isidore, Quebec, Canada. To be certain, it’s a well deserved honor for whom this writer considers the greatest MMA fighter of all time.

There was just one thing about the statue: As pointed out by assistant managing editor Matthew Wells in the MMA Junkie Slack channel, it bared a striking resemblance to former U.S. President Barack Obama. Wells went on to highlight that oddity in this space with a blog post headlined, Georges St-Pierre immortalized with a statue that looks more like Barack Obama.

It caught on right away and from there, the internet did what it does.

That was back on June 9. Five weeks later, word finally must’ve reached GSP about his statue as he acknowledged it on Instagram with a laugh.

Wait, what? No! My bronze statue looks like me I swear! Man, I love the Internet

You’ve got to love the fact that the GOAT has a sense of humor about this.
