Mickey Gall brings Matt Brown into corner for UFC on ESPN 27

Mickey Gall will have the most experienced welterweight in UFC history in his corner Saturday at UFC on ESPN 27.

Gall (6-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) returns to the octagon from a 13-month layoff when he takes on Jordan Williams (9-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) in a welterweight bout on the ESPN-televised card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. With three losses in his past five, it’s a critical contest for Gall’s career, and he knows it.

He said he fought injured in his most recent bout – a unanimous decision loss to Mike Perry in June 2020 – but now he’s healthy and ready to get back on track.

In order to do that, Gall said he’s been working with veteran 170-pound name Matt Brown, who has the record for most fights and finishes in divisional history. Gall said “The Immortal” will be in his corner on fight night, and he hopes that elevated him to victory.

“I was going out training with Matt Brown (during my layoff) and getting him ready for a couple of his fights,” Gall told MMA Junkie and other reporters at Wednesday’s UFC on ESPN 27 media day. “He came to New Jersey. He’s here, he’s in my corner. He came out to New Jersey to help us out and get us ready, and it’s been great.”
