Chris Daukaus is done waiting for Shamil Abdurakhimov.
After their UFC on ESPN 28 co-main event matchup on Saturday was scrapped due to undisclosed reasons from Abdurakhimov’s side, Daukaus (11-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC) wants to move on and fight a different top-10 opponent.

The bout fell apart for a second straight time after the pair were initially scheduled to fight a week before at UFC on ESPN 27. Abdurakhimov (20-5 MMA, 5-3 UFC) ended up withdrawing when someone in his corner tested positive for COVID-19, marking the Russian’s fifth straight canceled fight. Abdurakhimov hasn’t competed since a second-round stoppage loss to Curtis Blaydes at UFC 242 in September 2019.
Though a person with knowledge of the plans who wished to remain anonymous informed MMA Junkie that the fight is being moved to another date in the coming weeks, Daukaus doesn’t appear too keen on having his fight with Abdurakhimov rebooked. The 31-year-old heavyweight prospect is 3-0 since joining the UFC roster, most recently scoring a first-round TKO of Aleksei Oleinik at UFC Fight Night 185 in February.
