Pics: McGregor Shows Off His Surgically Repaired Leg

McGregor has taken another small step forward in his recovery following a nasty leg injury suffered in the cage.

For the last three weeks, Conor McGregor has been hobbling around in a massive leg cast as he recovers from a gnarly leg break suffered in his UFC 264 loss to Dustin Poirier. And while it’ll be a long time yet before the Irish sports star can even think about returning to action, we can at least report that the big mummy wrap is gone and McGregor is now sporting a much more comfortable looking boot that shows off some serious looking scars from his recent surgery.

McGregor snapped his tibia at the base of his leg by his ankle, resulting in doctors inserting a titanium rod all the way down from his knee to stabilize the break. There’s gonna be a lot of rehab in his future, but some doctors are suggesting “The Notorious” may return with an advantage now that he’s got some serious metal grafted into his shin.

“It’s kind of like having a tibia inside a tibia,” Orthopedic surgeon Chris Raynor said in a recent video. “When you think of it that way, it just might be a secret weapon that McGregor has in his back pocket when he returns. In my opinion, in the future it will take a lot more heat than what McGregor was cooking up at UFC 264 to damage that leg once he returns to competition.”

There’s no timeline for McGregor’s return just yet, but he’s made it clear that he plans on pulling off a comeback and regaining the UFC lightweight title. Whether he’ll be able to stay out of trouble while he waits for the leg to catch up with the rest of his body is a big question. Mac is already making some pretty poor social media decisions, recently tweeting that COVID-19 was ‘good’ because it killed his rival Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father. It doesn’t get more classless than that, really.
