Islam Mamedov confident he beat Brent Primus at Bellator 263, thinks immediate rematch is unnecessary

Islam Mamedov may have squeaked past Brent Primus on the scorecards, but he has no doubt that he won the fight.

Mamedov (20-1-1 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) defeated Primus by split decision at Bellator 263 on Saturday, where he used his grappling to control the fight and fend off Primus’ numerous submission attempts.

One of the judges scored the fight in favor of Primus (10-2 MMA, 8-2 BMMA), rewarding him for the activity off of his back. But Mamedov thinks he won a clear-cut decision that shouldn’t be considered controversial.

“Honestly, I was thinking that I won all three rounds with no doubts,” Mamedov said at the post-fight news conference. “I’m not sure why one of the judges gave my opponent the fight. In my mind I was thinking if this fight goes to him, it’s going to be something crazy. I can’t put together what he did to win this fight.”

He continued, “He has to do something to deserve a rematch because I’m telling you once again, I’m asking you a question, what has he done in these three rounds to get the victory? What has he done. Did he punch me? Did he take me down? He did nothing.”

Mamedov, who had former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in his corner, extended his winning streak to a remarkable 19 straight.
