Aldo’s Goals: Beat Munhoz, Challenge Dillashaw

Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo recently signed a lengthy contract extension because “Junior” plans to make a serious run at the 135-pound title. That mission continues in the UFC 265 pay-per-view (PPV) co-main event this Sat. night in Houston, Texas, where Aldo battles bantamweight stalwart Pedro Munhoz.

“I think this is a great fight for Aldo, it will certainly be a war,” Coach Andre Pederneiras said on Episode 4 of UFC 265 Embedded. “Pedro is a fierce kid. As soon as Aldo finds the opening to throw some punches and kicks he’ll take advantage. We have expectations of winning this fight, then the next one against TJ Dillashaw, then wait to see the next challenger in the division.”

Aldo (29-7) scored his first win at 135 pounds by turning away Marlon Vera last December in Las Vegas. “Junior” is currently ranked three spots below Dillashaw at No. 5 and may be out of luck if the promotion wants Dillashaw to fight the winner of Aljamain Sterling vs. Petr Yan. “Funk Master” captured the bantamweight title by way of disqualification at UFC 259.
