Francis Ngannou is the UFC’s heavyweight champion, but there will be an interim champ after Saturday night.

Derrick Lewis (25-7 MMA, 16-5 UFC) takes on Ciryl Gane (9-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) for the interim belt in the UFC 265 main event at Toyota Center in Houston, which is Lewis’ home city. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+.

Ngannou is less than pleased that the UFC has an interim title up for grabs to begin with. Saturday’s winner between Lewis and Gane is next in line – if we just go by what’s common practice.

But what does that mean for former champ Stipe Miocic, who UFC president Dana White has said could be Ngannou’s first challenge? Or how about former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, whose highly anticipated move to heavyweight could come with a title shot in his first fight in the division?
