Weidman Details Second Surgery On Broken Leg

Chris Weidman is once again on the road to recovery after undergoing his second surgery to repair a broken leg suffered at UFC 261 back in April.

Weidman, who snapped his leg at UFC 261 after Uriah Hall checked a kick (see it HERE), was making considerable progress from his initial surgery four months ago. The former UFC middleweight champion released footage three weeks after his injury to show fight fans that he was already walking on his own. One month later Weidman returned to the gym and digging even deeper into his recovery.

Unfortunately, Weidman revealed late last month that his fracture was not healing properly and doctors advised him to undergo a second surgery. It was brutal news for the MMA veteran considering his initial injury takes so long to recover from. A second surgery is only going to postpone Weidman’s potential return to UFC even longer.

That said, Weidman is trying to remain in good spirits. His second surgery happened earlier this week and the former UFC champion took to Instagram to address his fans.

Hi all! I’m home. The surgery went very well. The original plan of surgery was to take out a butterfly fracture on the tibia bone and secure the fibula with a plate and screws because it was not healing correctly. Apparently when they opened my leg up the fibula was more of a problem than expected which required a longer surgery and more hardware.

I do not have any pain right now because I have a nerve block on my leg which can last up to 48 hours.

I’m pretty damn tired and so I will sleep for a while, but I will be uploading a video to my YouTube channel to share all the details of the post-surgery. And I will also make minor updates here on my IG on how I am feeling.

Weidman, 37, is just 2-5 inside of the Octagon since losing his UFC middleweight title to Luke Rockhold back in 2015. “The All-American” has tested his hand at light heavyweight as well and hasn’t been able to find any stability inside of the cage. If he can recover from these surgeries it will be a win in itself. Anything extra will be a cherry on top.
