Brandon Davis is hyper-focused on getting another shot in the UFC – and Saturday, he took one step closer to making that a reality.

In his fourth fight since his UFC release in early 2020, Davis (14-8) successfully defended his bantamweight title against Josh Huber in the Gulf Coast MMA 11 main event when he finished the fight with strikes at the 1:31 mark of Round 1. The finish started with a left kick to the body and ended when Davis pounced and rained down a series of punches to the downed Huber.

The victory keeps Davis’ perfect post-UFC record intact – a streak that includes two finishes in four fights with both stoppages being TKOs.

Davis, 31, recently told MMA Junkie his main focus since his UFC departure has been his wrestling. His takedown defense has improved leaps and bounds, in his estimation. He even mixes in a takedown of his own from time to time – something that wasn’t common during his UFC tenure.

While he competed at both featherweight and bantamweight in the UFC, Davis is set of going toward his UFC goal in the 135-pound division.

From January 2018 to September 2019, Davis fought seven times for the promotion and compiled a 2-5 record. His wins came against Steven Peterson and Randy Costa, with his losses against Zabit Magomedsharipov, Giga Chikadze, Kyung Ho Kang, Kyle Bochniak and Enrique Barzola.

After Saturday’s fight, Davis issued a statement on Instagram that called for another UFC shot from Dana White and the promotion’s matchmakers.

“1st round TKO against a legit 24-11 opponent,” Davis wrote. Been working on these body shots against a southpaw all camp and it paid off. That’s 4 in a row and I’m showing why I need to back on the big show. @seanshelby @mickmaynard2 @danawhite @ufc get me back in there.”

Check out a clip of the finish, which Davis posted along with his statement:

Gulf Coast MMA 11 took place Saturday at Hard Rock Casino in Biloxi, Miss., and streamed on FITE TV.
