Jake Paul Has Had Talks About ‘Creating A Fighter Union’

Jake Pau, who has publicly advocated for UFC President Dana White to better compensate fighters, expresses interest in forming a fighter union.

There are two public sides of Jake Paul the boxer: the Internet troll who provokes fighters, and the fighter pay advocate going toe-to-toe with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White.

Paul vs. Woodley headlines a Showtime boxing pay-per-view (PPV) — also streaming on FITE — taking place inside Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio on Sun., Aug. 29. Ahead of the bout, “The Problem Child” expresses interest in taking tangible steps to empower fighters underpaid by major organizations.

“Yeah. I’ve thought about creating a fighter union. And there have been talks about it; however, it is a massive undertaking,” Paul tells MMAMania.com and SB Nation’s Combat Culture. “I’m 24-years-old. So I don’t know if I want to be in charge of a union at this point in my life. But honestly, if no one else is going to do it then I might have to step in the position to make it happen; however, we would need all of the fighters to cooperate and that’s easier said than done. Way easier said than done. Some people may not want to do that.

“There’s been a back-and-forth and it’s a massive undertaking. Do I see it happening soon? Potentially. I would love to do it. That’s the only way that this fighter pay [issue] and these contracts that people are locked into — it’s the only way that it’s going to change. I think it would be a massive, historic moment that I would love to be a part of, for sure.”

Paul (3-0, boxing) has taken several shots at White in the media, suggesting he has affected the UFC’s business and threatening to knock out (KO) the UFC boss.
