DWCS winner A.J. Fletcher: UFC debut with Dustin Poirier on card would be a ‘dream scenario’

LAS VEGAS – After stealing the show on Dana White’s Contender Series 37, A.J. Fletcher would love to compete on the same card as Dustin Poirier, who showed Fletcher some love Tuesday.

Fletcher punched his ticket to the UFC with a spectacular flying knee knockout of Leonardo Damiani and is looking to get back in there as soon as possible, preferably on the same card as teammate Poirier, who has emerged as one of the biggest stars in the UFC after back-to-back stoppage wins over Conor McGregor.

“I want to be active,” Fletcher said at the post-fight news conference. “I would like to try to get six fights in in a year-and-a-half. That’s kind of like my timeline. As far as who it is or where it is, I’m not really sure. If Dustin (Poirier) ends up having a scrap, I would absolutely love to get on a card with Dustin. That’s like a dream scenario that I’ve been telling my brother about for like three or four years, so if that manages to happen, then terrific. If not, then I just want to fight. We’ll see where it goes, but I’m ready.”

He continued, “I get to train with him. I get to see him. Seeing somebody at the top of the world in the sport like that and getting to train with him, getting to interact with him, getting to talk to him and seeing that he’s a human being and a great one at that, it just makes everything real for you.”
