UFC free fight: Ryan Spann knocks out Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in Brazil

Before he steps into the cage this Saturday to face Anthony Smith, relive one of the biggest moments of Ryan Spann’s career thus far.

At UFC Fight Night 192, Spann will face former title challenger Smith in the main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. At UFC 237, rising light heavyweight contender Spann traveled to enemy territory to take on Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in the final preliminary bout at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Spann, who trains out of Fortis MMA, didn’t waste much time getting into action after he touched gloves with his opponent. The speed difference was apparent early on and so was the power in the clinch.

Spann easily took Nogueira down early in the first round but didn’t play on the ground too long with the jiu-jitsu black belt. After landing a few strikes from top position, the pair returned to the feet, where Spann held the clear advantage.

Nogueira would defend a takedown attempt and let his hands go as well in response to Spann’s offerings, but his offense would be very brief. After getting tagged with a left hand, Spann responded with a series of punches of his own, finishing with a clean uppercut that sent Nogueira to the canvas to end the fight midway through the first round.
