Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell was released from jail Monday afternoon after being arrested early Monday morning for misdemeanors domestic violence charges.
TMZ first broke the news of Liddell’s arrest and obtained a statement from “The Iceman” after he was released.
Police responded to Liddell’s Hidden Hills home and determined that Liddell and his wife, Heidi Northcott, were involved in an argument that allegedly turned physical. Liddell was arrested and held on a $20,000 bond.
Following his release, Liddell claims that he was the one that was attacked leaving him with bruises and lacerations. He denied getting physical with Northcott and claims that he volunteered to be arrested in her place after being told that she was going to be detained.

“This was one of the many times I have tried to shield a family mental health issue from the public purview,” Liddell said in a statement to TMZ. “It has become painfully apparent that this cannot continue, as our private life has now reached a public breaking point.”
Liddell has been married to Northcott for more than 10 years and they have two children together. Liddell initially retired from mixed martial arts in 2010 after suffering four consecutive knockout losses. He came out of retirement in late 2018 after a nearly a decade away from the sport to face rival Tito Ortiz in a trilogy bout and lost to Ortiz by knockout.
